Dave
Macri has all of the qualities of a professional surf photographer. He left
taking pictures as a full time profession after 7 years to get back in the water.
So, you ask how did he he do this? Well it seems that owning a surfshop in one
of the most consistent surf spots in Florida was the answer. Dave
started Blue Sky Surfshop
20 years ago and has one of the best selections of surf equipment and clothing
that Big D Design has seen in quite a while. Dave with his wife Nancy who also
surfs (she probably will shred all over you) live in the town of St. Augustine,
Fla. St. Augustine has a little more push than a lot of other Florida spots.
This town takes swells from all directions and has a few surf spots with some
good power. The locals call Big D's favorite spots FA (right next to the HOJO
on A1A) and A street. Big D has seen many tubes there and that's a good thing
because tube riding is what Big D lives for. Now, back to Dave. This guy has
been everywhere on the globe with his wife surfing. Nancy his wife helps Dave
get in the right frame of mind to get any kind of job done. Women's surfing
has an icon, her name is Nancy. She has drive. The type that lives inside our
young upcoming grommets. You couldn't meet nicer people than Dave and Nancy.
Dave tries to plan his surf around the lighting (much needed entity) for photography,
and when the lighting is right, he shoots his Nikon 600mm or water camera. His
work has been published in many major magazines, but his freesurf must come
first. When surfing is in your bones and it's 6-8 foot you gotta surf those
waves. You understand don't you?
This
is a tribute to the Blue Sky surfshop, their website is coming soon.
